Arbindra Finnish Lapphunds
Finnish Lapphunds are Nordic dogs -- originating in northern Scandinavia in the region known as Lapland. (The photo above shows a phenomena common where lappies originate, Northern Lights.) Lappies do love the snow and the cold (as you can see from the photo to the left) and will tolerate warm weather but are not the best breed for really hot conditions. So far, they have done fine in the Hilo area but the weather here does not tend to get outrageously hot and there tends to be cooling trade winds. There are other locations in the Hawaiian islands that may not be as well suited, although there are also some higher altitude locations here that would be great for them as well. If you click on this picture, it will take you to our shutterfly site with pictures of our first litter plus some pictures of our two boys, Buster and Marvin, who were not able to join us in Hawaii.
Check back for more pics of Lola & Suzi, in Hawaii as we get them . (Our original plan was for each of them to have their own web page but, after developing a number of different pages, we found that they would not be displayed despite having plenty of available memory space due to the intentionally limited design program provided by FatCow.) Unfortunately, our boys, Buster and Marvin, were not able to join us in Hawaii and are in good homes in Massachusetts. We miss both of them greatly but, initially moving to a rented property here, even having 2 dogs was tough.
The origin of our kennel name is a contraction of the Saami word 'arbi' meaning 'the legacy of'
and Suzi's registered name, Indra.
